Flames Cup Quarter final dates set against Nottingham Panthers
By virtue of topping their group, the Flames have advanced to the Cup Quarter final round and will take on Nottingham Panthers in a 2 Leg, aggregate goal affair. Spectrum’s men will visit Nottingham on Wednesday, December 11th, at 7:30pm for the 1st Leg before returning home exactly one week later, Wednesday, December 18th, 7:30pm for the closing game. The winner will move on to the Semi final.
In group play, Surrey’s side, took 13 points from 8 games thanks to a 6 win, 1 loss and 1 overtime defeat record. Panthers, meanwhile, tied with Sheffield Steelers for top spot in their group, taking 4 wins against 2 regulation losses and a pair of OT defeats for a 10 point haul.
In head to head league action so far, the clubs have split a couple of games on Spectrum’s pad, with Flames dropping a 3-1 decision in early September before taking a 6-2 success a little over a month later.
Last season, the Flames made it all the way to the Cup Championship game when they lost 2-1 in overtime to Belfast Giants.
“After being so close last season, there is definitely a desire to get ourselves back to the trophy game to try and push right across the finish this time,” said Paul Dixon.
“Last year we had to go through Panthers to get there, and obviously if we are going to advance, we will need to do that again.”
“It is not a particularly long road trip for either team when they travel and they play on a large ice surface like we do, so neither team has a particular advantage over the other and it is simply going to come down to which side can deliver the strongest effort over 120 minutes. It is always exciting to get into elimination rounds and we are immensely looking forward to getting the series started on December 11th.”
