Full 9 Yards Sponsored Blackburn Hawks Weekend Preview

Your Full 9 Yards sponsored Blackburn Hawks have two Moralee Division league games this weekend

After a very disappointing result last Sunday, Hawks head to Solihull looking for revenge for a defeat a couple of weeks ago. The Hawks matched the Barons for most of the game that night but lost quick goals while on a major penalty kill. A focused, determined game on Saturday has a good chance of bringing back the points. Face off at Planet Ice Solihull is at 5.51pm.

On Sunday, newly promoted Nottingham Lions visit the Hawks nest and this is a must win game for the home side.

Three to watch on the Lions roster

Marc Levers

Now best probably described as a veteran, Marc has iced in over 1000 competative senior games in British Ice Hockey. Over 500 of these were in the Elite League with home town club Nottingham Panthers along with a season with Belfast Giants. He has alson represented GB at under 18, under 20 and at senior level. Marc also played 4 years in the EPL with Peterborough Phantoms, clocking up over 200 games and now is in his second season in the NIHL with the LIons.

Jakub Klima

Lion’s import forward was born in the Czech Republic and played his junior hockey with home town club Liberec. He has been a prolific scorer in the NIHL since he first came to the UK with Chelmsford Chieftans in 2011. He has also iced for Streatham Redskins, London Raiders, Invicta Dynamos and MK Thunder. He joined the lions this season and has 1 goal and 6 assists in 6 games.

Luke Thomas

Luke is a steady D man who has split his hockey career between home town club Solihull and the Nottingham Lions. He has now been with the Lions for 7 years, 4 as captain and now assistant captain for this season.

Face off on Sunday is at the usual time of 5.30pm with doors opening at 1645hrs.

Hawks need to get back on the winning bus this weekend as they play catch up with most of the teams in the league.

James Neil had this to say about this weekends games,” It was disappointing to go through last weekend with 2 defeats, especially as we had chances to win both games. Both games were lost in the third period after a great 40 minutes effort in both games. We need to keep our concentration for 60 minutes and if we do then we have a good chance of winning more games than we lose. We are playing well in patches but little moments when we switch off are killing us and those fine margins are crucial in hockey. We now have two league games this weekend to look forward to and an immediate chance to bounce back. We want to win every game we play but you can have a bad weekend and we just he to make sure we put ir right now and keep ourselves in contention for the top four.”
