Focus the Key for Flav

BILLINGHAM STARS have made their first netminder signing of the summer as James Flavell commits to another season as the last line of defence on Teesside.

27-year-old Flavell is one of the first names that the Stars fans want to see on the roster, having been a mainstay between the Billingham pipes since junior hockey days. Flav has had spells away from his home town, backstopping Whitley Warriors to two League titles whilst the Forum was closed, plus a guest spot at Edinburgh Capitals before spending much of the 2012-2013 season with Sheffield Steeldogs in the EPL. Last season saw Flav share netminding duties with Mark Watson, both keepers turning in stellar individual performances when it mattered as Stars pushed for the playoffs.

Flav is as confident as his teammates about the coming 2015-2016 campaign:

“Last season was an enjoyable year and the tandem with Mark was really good for the team. He’s a great goalie and sharing duties keeps us both motivated and the team know they can rely on either one of us. The Cup certainly kept things interesting and gave us a good opportunity to test ourselves. I really enjoyed the challenge of playing against such strong opposition and it helps you to become a better player overall.

We can definitely go one better next season, when we were at our best last year we gave even some of the EPL teams a challenge. Everyone is capable of doing something next year; it will come down to the team that can be the most consistent. Blackburn are obviously going to take some stopping but every game will be tough. We just need to focus on what we can do to win and try and maintain a strong squad across the year.

I’d just like to keep enjoying playing and do my best to keep us in games when needed. Obviously making the playoffs and being serious contenders for titles once again will be our goal.”
