Flames re-sign Ben Davies

The Guildford Flames ice hockey club will have Great Britain national team forward Ben Davies back in the lineup when the 2018-2019 Elite League season begins in September.  The 27 year old iced in all 66 League, Cup and Playoff starts last term while recording 16 goals and 30 points.  The native of Cardiff originally transferred from Coventry Blaze at the close of the 2016-2017 schedule where he posted 14 points in 39 starts after opening that campaign with American based Norfolk Admirals of the East Coast Hockey League.

I am looking forward to coming back to the team for another year,” said Davies.  “We had a good start to the league membership. It’s going to be fun to try and build on that and see where we can go.”

In 585 Elite League competitions with Cardiff Devils, Braehead Clan, Blaze and Flames, Davies has 100 goals and 155 assists.

The 5’8”, 180lb forward opened his Devils account while still under 18 in 2007-2008 when he iced 25 times.  He increased his contribution over the years to come, spending the bulk of the next 6 terms with the Welsh outfit before a two year tour with the Clan in 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 where he iced over 100 times while recording nearly 60 points.  In addition to his domestic duties, Davies added Champions Hockey League experience to his resume during his 2nd Scottish season when he played 4 games in the European club event.

Davies is currently on country duty in Budapest where he will add to his 13 GB caps from appearances at the world championships in 2013 and 2014, as well as a 3 game Olympic Qualifier run in 2016.  He also wore Flag colours at Jr. level with the Under 18’s and 20’s with whom he racked up 25 combined caps from 2007 through 2011.

“We worked hard to build a team last season that could play with good pace, and Ben fit well in that mix,” offered Head Coach Paul Dixon.

“He is a hard working player and he was able to slot into many different on ice circumstances including special teams.  He had a great season, and he was a big factor in our success.”

“Ben was unquestionably a key player to retain, and we are excited that he will be with us once again when the new season gets underway.”
