Flames get maximum point weekend after 5-3 win over Belfast Giants

Brett Ferguson had a 3 point night, as did Geoff Walker, and the Flames jumped out to a 5-0 lead over a couple of periods before a Belfast Giants 3 goal 3rd period closed the evening on a 5-3 Flames home ice win.  Ferguson kicked things off just 59 seconds in and Calle Ackered put the Flames 2 goals to the good when he followed up on an 8thminute 5 on 3 powerplay.  Rhett Rachinski put away a 2 on 1 Ferguson feed to make it a 3 goal spread at 22:56 then Ferguson collected a rebound himself just 8 seconds later for his 2nd of the night. A little over halfway Geoff Walker on the powerplay completed a 3 way passing play with Jesse Craige and Liam Stewart and it was 5-0 at the close of 40 minutes.  The Giants hit back early in the 3rd when Darcy Murphy opened their account.  About 6 minutes later, they converted a powerplay with a Brendan Connolly strike to make it a 3 goal game.  David Rutherford had them just 2 goals adrift less than 6 minutes from time, but, despite significant pressure, it would be the final goal of the contest.

“We have to now take a look back at the things we did well, and perhaps more importantly the things we need to do better and try to apply them in a short week of training ahead of Friday night’s visit to Cardiff Devils.”
