Finnish Defender Kim Miettinen signs
Blackburn Hawks are delighted to announce the signing of Finnish defender Kim Miettinen.
Standing at 6’1″ and 21 years old, Kim possess all the attributes we were looking for in an import D man.
He came through the junior set up at home in Finland playing at a high level through his time.
in 2013-14 Kim moved to play in Boston where he had a successful season in the Northern States Hockey League, scoring 41 points from 40 games.
In 2014-15 Kim then signed in the MHL in Russia where the standard of hockey is very high and played at a high pace. Unfortunately the team fell into financial trouble and Kim finished the season in Sweden, playing division 2 hockey for their remaining games.
Coach Daniel MacKriel said: “Kim came to trial with us and we quickly liked what we saw! He skates very well, is extremely mobile, has a good first pass and can shoot the puck! He is tough to beat one-on-one and sees the ice very well.
He will add something extra to our defensive core and I am delighted to get this signing over the line and to have him on board.
It wasn’t just his on ice skills that impressed either. Kim fitted straight into the dressing room like he has been here before and that is something that I am big on. Keeping a good team spirit is key and I am sure the Hawks supporters will take to Kim too!
I must also add that this signing was only made possible by the support of Graham Smith at Riverside Garden Centre and also our equipment manager Nick Riley. Kim will be working at the garden centre and without Grahams support this wouldnt have been possible to complete.
Early on in the summer Nick approached me saying he had a spare room in his house in which he was happy to have a player stay if the opportunity presented itself. So we owe these two gentlemen a huge thank you!!”
