Braehead Clan saw their hopes of a four-point weekend dashed as Fife Flyers made it two wins from two with a 5-1 win in Kirkcaldy.
After killing a four-game losing streak against Edinburgh Capitals, there was renewed confidence in the locker room going into a tough visit to Fife.
It took three minutes for the home side to unlock the door as Chase Schaber drove on the Clan net and delivered a good finish to get the Fife fans on side.
Braehead picked up an equaliser a few minutes later though, taking advantage of a five-on-three powerplay as Tyler Shattock scored unassisted to level things off.
Fife were in front shortly after as Carlo Finucci helped to tee up Peter LeBlanc, who applied the finish to have the Kirkcaldy side in front by the end of the first.
Finucci went close with a chance early in the second and Ryan Nie, the Clan goalie, did his bit as he threw himself at an opportunity from Danick Gauthier.
But Todd Dutiaume’s side extended their lead before the second break as Schaber got his second of the game with a powerful shot.
That goal swung the momentum in Fife’s favour going into the third period and further goals for the home team made it a good night for them.
Finucci added a fourth after James Isaacs reacted quickly to a sluggish move from the Clan, opening up a three-goal lead.
Then Isaacs himself added number five with a well-hit shot that beat Nie confirming a second victory in two weeks for the Flyers over Glasgow’s Clan.
