Fife Flyers 5 Braehead Clan 2

Braehead Clan suffered a minor setback on the road as Fife Flyers took the two points in a 5-2 win in Kirkcaldy.

After the hard-fought 3-2 over their Gardiner Conference rivals on Saturday, the Clan set out to repeat the feat in the latest phase of ‘Operation Play-offs’ but were unsuccessful.

The home side got off to the best possible start when Shayne Stockton got the final touch on a chance from Ian Young to open the scoring.

It took the Clan a couple of minutes to hit back as Ryan Potulny levelled, poking the puck home from close range after it had came loose from Fife goalie Andy Iles’ grasp.

Potulny got his second not long after with a simple tap-in as Braehead took advantage of a powerplay to turn the contest in their favour.

The home side got back on level terms as Stockton got his second of the game, finishing off a slick move as Flyers made the most of their powerplay.

By the end of the period, they were ahead through Carlo Finucci, who drilled home a chance after a spell of pressure.

Although they were ahead, the game was on a knife edge and it wasn’t until eight minutes from time when the Flyers opened the gap that secured the points.

Another from Finucci all but claimed the victory to the delight of the home before he made sure for his hat-trick goal a couple of minutes later to round off the night.
