Fellows back in Dragons defence

The Dragons have added further steel in defence with the return of club stalwart Steve Fellows.

The long-serving defenceman was Head Coach at Deeside last year, before the summer appointment of Lol Paul.

He will return to a player role next season, as The Dragons set their targets on the Laidler Conference title.

And Paul is delighted to have retained the services of another Flintshire favourite.

He said: “Securing Steve Fellows for next season has been an absolute priority for me this summer. He knows this club inside out and brings a huge amount of expertise.

“Steve has been a regular at Deeside for 20 years and will always give one hundred per cent commitment on every shift. That is going to be very important for us.

“He also puts up some very good numbers from defence. He collected 19 points last season, which was a vital contribution. I’ll be expecting the same next season.”

The return of Fellows will see him line up alongside Marc Lovell, Bryn Roberts and Matthew Wainwright in a tough-looking Deeside rearguard

The exact make-up of defensive lines is still to be decided by The Dragons coaching team – but the Welshman is certain to play a major role.

Paul added: “The great thing about Steve is that he’s a great guy, who will do whatever is needed for the team.

“I have known him for a very long time, mostly here in Deeside. I am sure there will times next season when I ask Steve for his advice during games and in training.”

“The fact that we have a strong defence, and some great players up front, means I can talk to players with confidence about our chances in the league.”
