Fans get thanks after Saturday night success

Tigers head coach Tom Watkins has applauded the role played by almost 1,000 fans at Telford Ice Rink during Saturday night’s 7-2 win over Manchester Phoenix.

The biggest crowd of the season watched Watkins’ men dominate a short-handed Manchester side, and move closer to a place in the top three of the EPL.

Telford now have just five home league games left to take advantage of increasing home support, before the end-of-season play-offs start in earnest.

And Watkins was delighted with the turn-out of Tigers fans against Manchester.

He said: “Making a lot of noise and creating a fun environment in the rink is really important to the guys and we all heard that on Saturday night.

“The guys notice it on the bench and comment on it quite a lot. Before a game, we walk around to the bench and against Manchester it was loud from the very start. That was great for everyone.

“The noise was excellent, and it was good to see a bit of camaraderie between the Manchester and Telford fans. That is what hockey should be all about.”

Telford’s next home game is against Guildford Flames on Sunday, February 28th. Tickets will be available online next week, at
