Experienced Cheverie Returns To Nottingham
This weekend sees Stena Line Belfast Giants forward Evan Cheverie return to the scene of one of his and the organisation’s most famous nights in history at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham. On Saturday the Giants clash with last season’s champions the Panthers for the first time in the 2013/14 season before visiting Hull on Sunday to face the Stingrays in two vital Elite League games this weekend.
Cheverie’s previous visit to the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham was on Sunday 4th April 2010 when the Giants took on the Cardiff Devils in the Playoffs Grand Final and won on penalty shots thanks to his winning goal.
“Nottingham brings back some good memories for obvious reasons – as we won the playoff championship there. There is a good atmosphere along with a high intensity and so we’ll need to be prepared and ready to go when the puck drops.”
“Nottingham are always a tough opponent – especially last year when they won all three trophies. From when I last played here, going to Nottingham was a tough battle and the crowd are pretty rowdy – i’m looking forward to it.”
“The Hull Stingrays are another tough opponent who seem to fly under the radar. They have stolen points from us in the past and so we cannot take them lightly. We’ve had a good solid start so far aside from the slip up against the Coventry Blaze when we ran into a hot goalie but we managed to rebound last weekend. Clearly you can see that you cannot take a ‘night off’ in this league – we have an experienced team and we’re ready and we’re going to be ready to play every night.”
