EIHL to be Shown on Sky Sports Again

The Elite League has announced that Sky Sports will be its television partner for the new season. The broadcaster has been showing highlights and occasional live games since 2007 but fans have been left disgruntled at the standard of coverage.

Sky have shown a weekly highlights shown but fans have been left angry on several occasions as the listing was moved around at the last minute to accommodate other shows. Sky has also opted to show the programme late at night or on its interactive service meaning many fans could not watch the show or record it.

Sky’s coverage of live matches has also fallen foul of the fans. Supporters of some clubs have cried out feeling the live matches concentrated too much on Sheffield, Nottingham, Belfast and Coventry.

The use of Dave Simms as a front person for the coverage has also hit many fans up the wrong way. Simms is well known for his off ice antics, which have included announced other teams signings and taunting Nottingham fans.

Many fans have been left disappointed that the Elite League chose Sky Sports again instead of trying to explore other options such as with NHL broadcaster Premier Sports.

Elite League spokesperson, Tony Smith, said: “It is fantastic news that the League will once again be covered on Sky Sports. Getting exposure on national television is very important to us and we are thrilled to be working with Sky and Televideo again.”
