â€˜Dynamic Defencemanâ€™ Mike Wilson Joins The Giants
The Stena Line Belfast Giants are pleased to announce the signing of Mike Wilson for the 2015/16 Season. Wilson, a 28 year old defenceman from British Columbia, Canada becomes the Giants 14th offseason signing and joins Jeff Mason and Matt Nickerson on the blueline next season.
Wilson arrives in Belfast, following two successive seasons with the Wichita Thunder in the CHL and ECHL respectively – posting 96 points in 137 games played. Previous to his time in Wichita, Wilson, who is 6â€™1â€ with a left shot, played 95 games for the Worcester Sharks across three separate spells with the AHL organisation as well as three further ECHL seasons with the Phoenix Roadrunners in 2008/09, the Victoria Salmon Kings in 2010/11 and then with the Orlando Solar Bears in 2012/13 – collectively posting 68 points in 146 games.

â€œMike has a couple of really good years in the East Coast league (ECHL) putting up some big numbers for a d-man. The coaches that I spoke to about him all said the same thing – that he flies, the strength is his speed and, I think, when you get a guy who is creative offensively and skates well, then the transition to the bigger ice is much easier.â€
â€œHe makes good decisions with the puck, he is dynamic offensively – I think he will be able to creative offence from the back, which is something I thought we did not have enough of last year.â€
