With the start of the season only a week away McKenzie’s men took to the ice in the second of three scheduled challenge games with a home match against Bristol Pitbulls
The Dragons again did not ice any imports due to injury and registration issues.The game began cautiously, with both teams taking shots from distance. Some great goal keeping from both netminders kept the score sheet blank until the15 minute mark when the Dragons took the lead when a shot by Simon Furnival left the goalie stranded, 1-0 to the Dragons!.
The crowd were still cheering Furnival’s goal when he double his account only 20 seconds later with an assist from Ross Kennedy both teams went in at the first break with a 2-0 lead to the Dragons.The second period was a much closer affair with both teams now finding their feet and stringing some good passes together which brought lots of pressure on both goalies but it was the Dragons who got the only goal of the period when new signing Geoff Wigglesworth opening his account for the Dragons with a superb individual move which split the defence and then deked the goalie to slot home the puck to make it 3-0 to the Dragons.
The third period stated with a bang with that man again Geoff Wigglesworth when he double is account in less than a minute of the start of the period when captain Marc Lovell slot a pass in front of the net to Wigglesworth who calmly puts it beyond the reach of Andrew Leckie in the Bristol net to make it 4-0 to the Dragons.
The home team were now in command of the game and the long journey from Bristol was beginning to take its toll on the Pitbulls ,the Dragons were having more and more chances to increase the lead and put the game to bed when Geoff Wigglesworth made his dream home debut with a hatrick goal assisted by Scott McKenzie to put the game well and truly to bed.
Head coach Scott McKenzie was please with the result and said after the game “I was really happy with the game tonight it gave me a chance to play some of the youngsters and give them some valuable ice time and experience and hopefully see where we need to be improving in readiness for the start of the season”
