Dietmar’s Hamann for Tigers awards

Champions League winner Dietmar Hamann will be the guest of honour at Telford Tigers’ end of season presentation evening on Friday.

The former Liverpool star, who won Europe’s top footballing honour in 2005, will join Tigers fans and players during the event at the Place Theatre in Oakengates.

Midfielder Hamann, now 42, spent seven years with the Anfield club, where he was also part of the famous treble-winning side of 2001.

Telford Tigers owner, Wayne Scholes, is delighted to have secured Hamann’s services for the evening.

He said: “Dietmar, or Didi, as most people know him, will always be something of a legend in the eyes of Liverpool supporters. To have him here in Telford is a real honour.

“I wanted to bring somebody who knows the value of commitment, hard work and above all, team work. That’s what helped Liverpool to win the Champions League in Istanbul.

“Everybody at Telford Tigers has worked incredibly hard over the season, both on and off the ice. I want them to enjoy a party atmosphere and celebrate the year.

“Bringing Dietmar will give the evening an added element of sparkle that this club deserves. I can’t wait to hear his tales of that famous win over AC Milan.”

Hamann also played for Manchester City and Newcastle United in the Premier League, before embarking on a career in coaching and management.

Friday night’s event starts at 7pm, and ends at midnight.
