Dickson Helps Giants To Comeback Win At Odyssey

The Stena Line Belfast Giants claimed a dramatic win over the Braehead Clan at the Odyssey Arena on Sunday with an overtime goal by Jeff Mason. Andrew Dickson earned his first ever win, starring in goal for the Giants, facing 29 shots from the Clan.

The visitors opened the scoring at 4.14 as captain Ash Goldie was on target. They doubled their lead with a powerplay goal from Joel Champagne at 9.12. At this point Belfast called a timeout, although they managed to regroup after this they were unable to get on the score sheet and the Clan went in at the break with a two goal advantage.

The Clan increased their lead at 27.16 as Champagne netted his second powerplay play of the game. The hosts pulled one back as Calvin Elfring scored with a powerplay goal at 34.52. Giants, Adam Keefe received a minor for roughing plus a 10 minute misconduct with 35 seconds of the second period remaining.

The Clan started the third period with an extra man for 85 seconds but failed to make it count. Not like the Giants who went on the powerplay shortly after this and Craig Peacock make it a one goal game when he netted at 42.03. The hosts were back on level terms as Elfring scored his second of the game at 53.51.

With no further scoring the game went into overtime and the Giants completed their comeback as Jeff Mason scored the game winner at 62.24.
