Dan’s Scott a new deal with Tigers

Telford Tigers fans favourite Dan Scott has signed a new long-term contract to remain with the Shropshire outfit until 2019.

The 23-year-old returned to Telford from Slough Jets three years ago and is now a key part of the squad, wearing the Assistant Captain’s armband for the last two seasons.

Tigers head coach, Tom Watkins, moved quickly to secure the defenceman’s future at Telford for the next three years.

He said: “Dan is a very important player for us, both in the here and now, and in the future. He’s the kind of player you build a club around, and he isn’t assistant captain for no reason.

“He is still quite young, at just 23, and has got excellent ability. That means he’s improving all the time and I would like to see him progress even further with us.

“I think Dan can give us more grit and play with more physicality at times, but I don’t want to jeopardise what he brings from a defensive reliability stand point.

“It’s finding a balance of playing physical and not sacrificing any other part of your game to make a hit.”

Scott originally joined Telford in 2010, where he spent a season under the trust organisation, before joining Elite League side Hull Stingrays, then Slough in the EPL.

Watkins added: “Dan works very hard in the summer to keep himself in shape and it’s great to have him in the dressing room. He got the kind of infectious character that can be so important.

“He was captain of Great Britain under-20s, and brings great leadership qualities to the squad. Dan is one of the guys that people go to for support and advice.”.

His role as assistant captain at the Tigers has also brought extra responsibility off the ice, as Telford look to bring in new fans from across the county.

“It is part of our job as players to help promote the club and the sport as a whole, so Dan is always the first off his seat to get involved in these sort of events,” Watkins said.

“It is one thing to attend, but Dan always helps to make it fun for everyone, whether that’s a school visit or promotion. His attitude really helps to show the club in a good light.”
