Coventry pair Blaze a trail to Telford

Telford  Tigers NIHL have signed promising youngsters Corey Goodison and Phillip Mulcachy from Coventry Blaze, as they gear up for their first season in the Moralee Conference.

Both players are products of the Coventry junior development system, and enjoyed successful breakthrough campaigns with the club’s NIHL side last season.

Centreman Mulcachy collected 24 points in 22 games in the Laidler Conference, while also amassing 47 points for Coventry’s title-winning under-18 outfit.

Goodison was a stalwart for the Blaze youngsters, while at the same time playing a crucial role in the NIHL defence – his first season at that level.

Tigers NIHL Assistant Coach, Jason Parry, expects the pair to fit in well at the Shropshire club.

He said: “These two guys have got great futures ahead of them, so I am delighted to have signed them for us.

“Corey and Phillip coped very well with the move up from under-18 level, and they’ll no doubt do the same again at Telford.

“They know a lot of the guys from playing against each other over the years, so it will be easy for them to fit in.”

Those records at under-18 level – and with Coventry’s NIHL side – have marked out Mulcahy and Goodison as potential stars of the future.

And Parry wants that development to continue at Telford.

He added: “Phillip is a very good, skilful player, while Corey is extremely hard working in defence. I would expect them to be knocking on the door of the GB under-20s team soon.

“They’ve both got a lot of ability and it is the right move, so they can push themselves in the Moralee Conference.”

Tigers NIHL General Manager, Mike Washburn, is expecting big things from the former Coventry pair.

He said: “These are two fantastic signings for The Tigers NIHL – I’ve known and watched them both play over many seasons.

“Phil is a really gritty forward who posts up some great numbers, while Corey is a solid D man who plays well above his years.

“Both players epitomise what The Tigers NIHL team is all about – skill and determination of the highest order, with work rates to match!

“Just like the company they keep on the roster, these guys are stars of the future – welcome on board!”
