Composure & Concentration from Ben

BILLINGHAM STARS have added versatility to their 2015-2016 roster with their latest signing – utility man Ben Davison.

23-year-old Davison played as a forward last season, having previously patrolled the Stars blue line. Equally at home up-front or in defence, Ben was called upon to cover at the back several times during the last campaign as injuries took their toll, whilst also contributing a brace of goals after taking Jack Davies’ slot on the third line.

Ben is looking forward to his second season up front, from where he hopes to add a few more goals to his tally:

“The third line was pretty much the only one which was mixed around last year, with one of us being called up to the top two lines for injury cover it meant a lot of games we weren’t playing together as a unit. I thought Luke and Jack really stepped up when called upon, putting up some good goals. Losing Jack early on in the season I felt I stepped into his place well in my new forward role. I thought I adapted quickly into the forward systems we use while still being able to jump back into defence when injuries hit and it was needed.

Losing in a final is never easy, feeling like we were in the game and going in front really picked up the bench and all our beliefs that the trophy was ours, only for a mad session of play to see us on the wrong side of a score line to a team which isn’t going to roll over and let you come back. I think all the lads will be remember the feeling in the dressing room after the final, making this season’s goal silverware come the end of the season. We have the talent, just a few lapses in concentration during games and not playing our best for a full 60 minutes cost us last season – you can’t just turn up to a game and expect to win with the strength of the teams in our league now.

I would like to see me put up a lot more points next season, I managed to get some good chances in front of net last season and didn’t put them away when it would have made a massive difference to the game. Hopefully my second year as a forward I’ll be composed in front of net and will be shooting to score every opportunity I get.”
