Colin Shields Top Scorer For Team GB

Stena Line Belfast Giants forward Colin Shields, who netted a hat-trick in Great Britain’s final game against already-promoted Poland, finished as the leading goalscorer at the World Championship Division 1B in Vilnius with five goals.

GB beat Poland 4-2 to stand a chance of winning the bronze medal on the final day, but Lithuania had to settle for bronze, as Croatia claimed silver with a 3-2 win over the hosts, while GB finished fourth.

Shields, who also scored against Romania and Netherlands said: “It was great to finish the tournament as leading goalscorer.

“I have to credit my line-mates and the squad as I felt we had some great moments this week.

“We are disappointed we did not go straight back up as that was our aim.

“Once promotion had gone, we reset our goals and focused on bronze.

“We did what we had to go against Poland in a fantastic team performance.

“It is a shame the Lithuania result did not go our way, but we are building for the future.”
