Cody Fits Well Into Life As A Giant

New to the Stena Line Belfast Giants locker room this season is Calgary-born Cody Brookwell. After spending the previous three seasons with the Gwinnett Gladiators of the East Coast League, the 27 year old is playing his first season, not only in the Elite League but in Europe and has been enjoying things so far, ”I’m having a great time, it’s a pleasure being part of a good organisation like the Giants. I love the city, the community and I couldn’t ask for a better situation,” said Brookwell.

Brookwell and his teammates are currently leading the charge at the top of the Elite League – four points clear of second placed Dundee Stars and with the Giants having just began a stretch of eight straight away games, the 6ft 4″ defenceman has enjoyed the team’s success on the road so far this season, ”We’ve been playing really well especially on the road. With our schedule on the road it’s important for us to keep playing well with these road games coming up.”

Following Sunday’s impressive 4-2 win in Sheffield against the Steelers, Head Coach Paul Adey described Brookwell as, “a quality defenceman and i’ve been so impressed with him since the start of season” and praised Cody’s partnership with Calvin Elfring. Speaking on his ‘d-partner’, Brookwell had this to say, “You can learn a lot from a guy like that – he’s been playing for a long time. We’ve had chemistry since the get go. It’s a pleasure playing with a guy that I work well with both on and off ice.”

The Giants are back on the ice at the Dundonald Ice Bowl this week preparing for this weekends’ games on the road against the Edinburgh Capitals and the Fife Flyers and Brookwell says that he and his teammates will be focused for the tough task ahead, ”It’s business as usual. We’re going to stick with what we do – not change anything – we’re playing well. We got to prepare ourselves mentally for those games as you do not want to come in sleepy. The guys are preparing themselves well for those games.”
