Clarkson sets out stall for new campaign

Telford Tigers’ new imports arrived in the UK yesterday – and 6’ 5” Canadian Doug Clarkson immediately laid down an early marker ahead of the new English Premier League season.

Clarkson was joined by Michal Satek, Milan Kolena and Brit Corey McEwen at Manchester Airport, as Telford ramped up preparations for this month’s pre-season friendly against Milton Keynes.

Tigers coach Tom Watkins has rebuilt his squad during the off-season with four import forwards, alongside Polish international netminder Ondrej Raszka.

And Clarkson, who moved from Elite League side Dundee Stars, is looking forward to helping build a winning squad.

He said: “Tom has done a great job in bringing in players who can really help the team, and laying down some good foundations for a winning team.

“I think we can go far and compete for trophies next season, which is what every player wants to do.

“I am a big believer in how a team gets together and works for each other. It contributes a lot to the success of the team, so I know there will be high expectations for all trophies.”

Telford Tigers start their pre-season with a trip to face Milton Keynes Lighting on August 27th, before the return game in Telford just 24 hours later.

On September 3rd they visit Hull Pirates, ahead of a home encounter against Hull the next day.

They start their league campaign away to reigning champions Basingstoke Bison on September 10th, with their first home league game scheduled for September 11th, against Manchester Phoenix.
