Clancy Appointed Head Coach

The YKK Widnes Wild are delighted to announce that Mike
Clancy has been appointed to the position of Head Coach.

The 44 year old will take over the role from the departing Ollie Baron at the end of the season and has been appointed in consultation with both Ollie Barron and Mark Gillingham in order to ensure a smooth transition.

This will be Mike’s first position as a senior coach after a
long and successful career coaching junior teams at club and international
level.  Mike will be continuing his role
with the England coaching programme.

Speaking about Mike’s appointment, the Wild chair Matt Lloyd

“Whilst this is Mike’s first role coaching a senior team he
has coached several very successful junior teams and has won several gold
medals with his conference teams as well as having played with several
successful teams including Sheffield Scimitars, Trafford Metros, Telford
Tigers, Altrincham Aces as a player”.

“I feel he will make a great coach and I will give him
the same support I’ve given Ollie. Mike is the right appointment to make if we
want to build on our success of the past three years”.

“Mike knows what it takes to win and with his
experience on and off the ice we are looking forward to the club evolving
especially as the junior programme is developing and there is now a demand from
young players looking to make the move into senior hockey”, Matt continued.

“I am excited to be joining the Wild organisation.”, said Mike who is currently away coaching the Midlands U17 Conference team.

An in-depth interview with Mike will be published in the
near future and any players interested in trialling for the Wild should email  Don’t forget to follow the Wild on social
