CHL Success a Snowball of Positive

The Champions League has always been has something nice but not important for UK sides. This season though has changed our expectations. Not only have we seen victories but for one side to qualify for the next group and as group winner is a huge step and they getting a lot of praise if it is a little over the top.

The praise is a bit over the top. We know other teams are perhaps not taking the CHL as seriously and are not playing their best line up against UK teams. However that was the case in previous years and UK sides were being comprehensively beaten. So we have taken a step forward and hopefully it will pay off when it comes to the World Championships.

It is also good thing for the sport in the UK. The success of the British teams should increase the standing of the league and gives us some positive news. This can only be good for attracting sponsors and indeed players to the league. In terms of sponsorship the CHL is were the big boys come to play. With the top teams from the top leagues especially those in Sweden, Finland and Switzerland being the main sport for companies to sponsor suddenly seeing a UK team on the ice and beating them then it can open the doors.

In terms of players then it can only add to the attractiveness of the UK for international players. North Americans have often come because of the language but why wouldn’t the EIHL be an alternative to the Alsvenska

It can be the start of a snowball of positivity to hit the sport. I just hope that now the competition has gotten serious that the success can continue even it isn’t a win. And next season the IIHF will be hard pressed to not make the EIHL a pick for the CHL and possibly with a second team.
