Cheverie Ready For Blaze Battles This Weekend
Stena Line Belfast Giants forward Evan Cheverie returns to his first Elite League side, the Coventry Blaze this Saturday and Sunday for two vital Elite League clashes. Cheverie first put pen to paper for the Blaze in 2005 and is currently two goals away from 100 Elite League goals following three goals against the Edinburgh Capitals last Saturday, “I don’t think about the records really, though it was nice to get rewarded with the hat-trick last weekend as our line have been playing good hockey so hopefully we keep that going this weekend,” said Cheverie. “Though we simply need to keep the momentum going and not worry about exactly who puts the chances away.”
If anyone knows how tough this weekend’s challenge for the Giants is, it’s former Blaze player Cheverie, “It’s always tough going in there, they have a good squad. These are 4 big points for us and so we’re looking to get off to a good start.”
Things in the 2013/14 season have gone well for the Giants as Cheverie and his teammates currently sit top of the Elite League, Challenge Cup and Erhardt Conference standings, however the forward knows that staying focused and getting complacent is key, “We need to stay disciplined, as they have a good powerplay and guys who can score. We especially need to remain disciplined as we have a few players missing this weekend. We need to play smart and within ourselves, play the system, be patient and let the game come to us”
Giants fans can watch Saturday’s game live at Laverys Belfast, face-off 7pm and Sunday’s game will be screened live in McCools Bar in the Odyssey Arena with a pre-game Q&A with Giants legends Graeme Walton, Shane Johnson, Chris McGimpsey and Jason Bowen starting at 4pm. There is an entrance fee of £4 per Adult and £2 per U18 to include a free drink payable on the door at the Odyssey Arena.
