A TV series starring the National Ice Centre and the life of its many skaters will air on CBBC this month. The first episode of Ice Stars will be broadcast on Tuesday 11 August 2015 at 5pm with nine further episodes due to air every Tuesday afternoon until October 2015.

Ice Stars is a ten part documentary series following the ups and downs, both on and off the ice, of a dedicated group of young people with exceptional skating skills living in and around Nottingham. From high octane ice hockey players to synchronized dancers and individual performers, these youngsters aim to be the best. Future Olympians balance school and friendships with international competitions, whilst beginners learn to shine.

The series was filmed at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham between January 2015 and May 2015.

Geoff Huckstep, Chief Executive at the National Ice Centre said:

“It’s been a great experience for our talented skaters to be showcased in this exciting series. We think the viewers will be amazed at the dedication and hard work and what it takes to become an elite performer in their chosen ice sports disciplines. I believe the skaters are fantastic role models for other young people and the series captures this perfectly.”

The series has been commissioned by Cheryl Taylor, Controller of CBBC. Kez Margrie, BBC Executive Producer says:

“The passion and commitment of these young people is remarkable. Going behind the scenes at the ice rink opens up a whole new world of hard training with highs and lows, which pushes their dedication to the limit and forges strong friendships.”

Ice Stars has been made by production company Drummer TV (School for Stars and My Life: Born Lucky and Peter’s Circus). Tamsin Summers from Drummer TV says:  “The skaters may leave home at 5am to practice in the rink before school, but outside the rink they are normal young people, dealing with the same day-to-day challenges as their non-skating mates.”
