Cardiff hockey legend Stone takes dual role with the Fire
Cardiff Fire are delighted to announce that Jason Stone will play a dual role in this seasons Cardiff Fire team. Stone will play for the Fire on a part time basses and joins the coaching team overseeing player development.
Beginning his senior career in Cardiff in 1988 Jason Stone is the record holder for appearances for the Cardiff Devils. Playing in the BD1 BHL, Super League, BNL, EIHL and ENIHL. He has only played outside of Cardiff twice playing for Guildford and Swindon in the EPL. Stoney is the only Cardiff and Welsh born player to have his jersey retired by the Cardiff Devils and is a true legend in British hockey. He has also represented GB in the world championships.
Mark Cuddihy added “I have known Stoney for almost 30 years. As junior players he was always someone we looked up to and wanted to emulate. Nothing has changed there. I had the pleasure of singing him in 2012 for the NIHL 1 team and he has helped me develop many players, you only need to ask players like Callum Buglass what it was like to play alongside Stoney. We have other young players, its going to be fantastic for guys like Elis to play in a team with Stoney. With Stoney taking a more hands on role I’m delighted to have him back with the Fire”
