The Fire made the short trip up the M4 to take on local rivals Swindon for the 2nd time in their barn. With no ice time for the Fire and Swindons young team the boys had their work cut out for them. Two debutants were added to the Fire roster for this trip with young prospect goalie James Whiting and Josh Haslam added to the line up.

It took only 4 mins  26 seconds for the Fire to take the lead, some good defensive work in the neutral zone by Ricky Deacon lead to a break away that was cooly slotted past net minder Graham Bird. Just a minute later David Sadler doubled the lead, a great breakout out of the defensive zone form the 3rd line saw Steve Newton find Haslam who skated through the Swindon defence to find Sadler in the slot to bury home for Fire’s 2nd of the night. With 30 seconds left in the period, and Fire on a powerplay, Jordon Powell made a slick pass to Robert Sedlak who went 5 hole to make it Fire 3 Swindon 0 before the break. A heated end to the period saw Al Madge drop the gloves for a clip on Ricky Deacon.

The 2nd period took a little longer to get going, this time it was Jordon Babers turn to get on the scoresheet with his first goal for the fire. Josh Haslam found a well positioned Baber in the slot to fire home top shelf. 4-0 to the Fire. Swindon never stopped skating and got their reward a min before the period break with Micheal Stratford finally beating the excellent Joe Myers in the Cardiff goal. Period end Fire 4 Swindon 1. More fisticuffs in the 3rd saw Ross Wilkinson drop the gloves with Stu Widdows from Swindon to keep the fans on their toes.

Going into the 3rd period the Fire players knew the next goal was important, a goal for Swindon would have brought them right back into the game but an early goal for Fire would have put the game all but out of reach for Swindon. Luckily it was the Fire that got the goal and their 5th of the night. Joe Myers came out of his net to play the puck and sauced a pass to Robert Seldak who set off with speed, Tim Burrows broke through the middle of the ice and was found by Sedlak to send Burrows on a breakaway. Tim deaked Bird for Cardiff’s 5th goal of the night. Cardiff now rolling 4 lines and 7 D for the 3rd period.   With Phil Manny serving a penalty for delay of game Swindon capitalised with a monster shot from the point from Kyle Smith. With just over a min to go in the 3rd period Cardiff’s first line had a great spell of possession, James Manson found Tim Burrows who in turn found Jordon Powell who skated through waving his way through the Swindon defence firing home for Cardiff’s 6th and final goal of the game.
