Capitals sign David Rutherford to complete the roster

Edinburgh Capitals have signed 28-year old Canadian Forward, David Rutherford from Ontario Reign of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).

Right Wing, Rutherford, 5’9″ and 180lbs, is a proven scorer in minor league hockey in North America. During his seven year professional career, he has registered 148 goals and 179 assists, to total 327 points in 378 games.

Riley Emmerson said, “Adding David Rutherford is a statement. We have signed a champion. He has won at every level he has played at. I know from playing against Rudy, and with Rudy, that he’s a great player. I am excited to have him. He is extremely passionate, and he has tremendous skill and speed.

“Our fans are going to love him and opposition fans are going to hate him, he’s a difficult guy to play against. He can get under the skin of opponents, then beat them with skill and speed. I’ve seen David singlehandedly taking over games. All I can say now is bring on September! This is a new Edinburgh Capitals team.”

“I’m excited to be a part of the future moving forward in Edinburgh. We have some amazing players coming in who are all competitive. It’s an exciting time to be playing hockey in the UK and I’m looking forward to calling Edinburgh home.” said David Rutherford

Scott Neil commented, “David is a quality signing. We wanted another small, quick forward who is a proven points scorer. We knew we had to be patient, and we waited for a player of his calibre to become available. We’ve been talking with David for most of the summer, and when everything fell into place last week, we moved quickly to sign him.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the team on the ice, we’ve signed a good group of players. We have size, toughness, speed, skill, goal scorers, youth and experience.”
