Call to Tigers fans ahead of Lightning clash

Tigers fans have been urged to pack out Telford Ice Rink for Sunday’s top of the table clash with Milton Keynes Lightning.

The two sides meet with just one point currently separating them at the head of the English Premier League.

Both teams also face games on Saturday evening, but Sunday’s clash is expected to mirror last week’s dramatic encounter in Milton Keynes.

The Lightning won that game 4-3 in overtime, and Tigers Managing Director Paul Thomason wants this weekend’s crowd to top the 1,000 mark.

He said: “We have had crowds of just over 800 fans for the last few weeks and I want Sunday to exceed that number by quite some way.

“The atmosphere this season has been remarkable, and is down to the hard work and dedication of our volunteers in promoting the club.

“The players have all said how much a big crowd helps them to go that extra mile, if they have a noisy fan base behind them.

“It would be such a huge boost for club and indeed the town, if we could reach that figure and put Telford Tigers on the map.”

Milton Keynes have become Telford’s key rivals in recent years, beating them over two legs in last season’s play-offs.

The Tigers emerged winners from two pre-season friendless, but following that defeat in Milton Keynes last week, Thomason is keen to put the record straight.

He added: “The Lightning are always a tough test and any game between us will be physical with plenty of big hits.

“The players were magnificent in Milton Keynes last week and they all want to hit back against them on Sunday.

“The noise from our fans in the away game was incredible, which is what we want this weekend. Each and every person involved with Telford Tigers has a big role to play.

“I believe that Telford Ice Rink is becoming a real fortress for visiting teams to face and I want that to continue.”
