Busy Weekend Ahead As Wild Look To Down Hawks 2 and Tame Tigers 2 Too
The Wild won 3 out of their 4 meetings with the Tigers last season but lost 2-0 away in their first encounter of the new Laidler campaign.
The YKK-sponsored Widnes Wild will be looking to consolidate their position at the top of the Laidler Division table with two games this weekend – away at Blackburn on Saturday and then at home to Telford at Planet Ice Widnes on Sunday.
The Wild trounced the Blackburn “Hawks 2” 22-2 in their home game at Widnes two weeks ago and, while an away win looks likely due to the fact that they will be playing against a “development team” packed with youngsters, there is never a “sure thing” in ice hockey and a visit to the Blackburn Arena is always tricky.
Despite also being a “2” team, the visit of the Telford Tigers 2 team on Sunday is likely to be the tougher of the two encounters. The Tigers 2 team is not a development team and a highly competitive game is expected.
The Wild lost 2-0 down in Shropshire at the end of September in a game where they created lots of chances but failed to convert any of them into goals.
Despite having had a good start to the season with 3 wins in a row, the Tigers have lost their last two games – away to Deeside and at home to Hull – so it will be interesting to see how they bounce back from that on Sunday.
The Wild top the Laidler Division table with 10 points from 7 games – the same as north west rivals Altrincham Aces who are in second place due to their inferior goal difference.
The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild are away to the Blackburn Hawks 2 team on Saturday and then at home to the Telford Tigers 2 this Sunday 21st October at Planet Ice Widnes. Face off is at 5.30pm and doors open at 4.45.
