Buglass joins the Fire

20 year old Callum Buglass joins Cardiff Fire from Swindon Wildcats for the 2017/18 season.

Cardiff junior prospect Callum has been playing for the Wildcats for the last 2 season in the EPL, whilst also representing the Cardiff Devils on a two-way. Callum experienced his first taste of Elite League Hockey in 2012 as a 16 year old, playing 5 games for the Devils. Callum went on to play a further 22 games in the Elite League.

Callum has represented conference, England teams and also Great Britain at under 18 and 20’s teams. Playing 14 times for the GB at junior level taking in 3 international world championships.

Starting his hockey in the Cardiff junior system Callum broke into senior hockey immediately as a 16 year old playing 21 times for Cardiff in NIHL 1. Callum became a prominent defenceman for the NIHL 1 team for the following two seasons before being picked up by the Wildcats. His first season in the Premier League saw Callum icing 48 times for the Wildcats, finishing his first season with 9 points (1+8) Callum’s 2nd season in the premier league started well but after just 14 games he suffered an injury that would end his season early. Callum has been working hard this summer through his rehab and is already back on the ice 100% fit and ready to go for the Fire in the upcoming season.

Mark Cuddihy added “I am delighted to be working with Callum again, I have coached Callum since he was a 15 year old. Callum used to skate with our NIHL team whilst he was still in under 16’s. As soon as Calum turned 16 we signed him, we knew he was ready to play NIHL immediately. Watching him develop into a professional and international hockey player has been great. He has a fantastic supportive family around him and his success has come as no surprise to me whatsoever.

He’s a tall defenceman with a great reach and he is very hard to get around. He has a good passing range and he’s quick. Callum knows the areas he has to work on to make that jump up to Elite League hockey and he is working very hard on them. He is incredibly coachable and super ambitious. He has the perfect attitude to make it to the top of British hockey and I am pleased I get the chance to help him again. I will be putting a lot of responsibility on Callum’s shoulders this season and I am sure we will all see him grasp it with both hands”

Callum Buglass continued “I am very happy to be joining the fire, after the big injury i am more eager than ever too play hockey again. Leaving swindon was one of the hardest decisions i had to make but the ice time on offer was a big thing for me, it is more valuable this year than anything else. I cant wait too get going with the Fire and get that first game under my belt”
