As the Hawks continue preparation for the 2018/19 season we are pleased to confirm that influential defenceman Luke Boothroyd and club stalwart Oliver Lomax will once again wear a Hawks uniform.

31 year old, Luke hails from Huddersfield, shoots right, stands 5’11” tall and weighs 201 lbs. Luke started hockey in the Bradford programme, was a Great Britain international at U18 and U20 level and has played senior hockey in Hull and most notably for the Manchester Phoenix where he was team captain for 8 seasons.

Luke had this to say about his return, “I’m really looking forward to a second season with Blackburn. We had a lot of potential last year and showed what we were capable of as a team in a number of games. It sounds like Duncs is putting together a very competitive team which, again, will have lots of potential”.

Luke continued, “It was an adjustment for everybody last year with the EPIHL folding and teams joining the NIHL. I think everyone has adjusted to a more competitive league and we proved last year we can compete with any team. I enjoyed last year in Blackburn and the group of guys we had plus the signing of Robin (Kovar) really did make it an easy decision for me to return for another season. I think if we can maintain consistency throughout the year we will certainly be up there with the top teams in the league”.

Player-Coach Steve Duncombe commented on Luke’s resigning, “Luke was one of the names we needed to return to develop our team in Luke we have a great stay at home D man who was consistent all season and stepped his game up against the top teams. He’s a great leader and role model to the younger players. I’m happy we managed to keep him on board for another season and I am positive that he will do a great job for us”.

Our second signing announcement is fans favourite and club stalwart Oliver Lomax. Ollie started his ice hockey in Blackburn in the junior setup on 2002 and apart from a brief spell at Billingham has been an ever-present member of the squad. During his time with the Hawks 30 year old Ollie has patrolled the Hawks blue line over 300 games. Ollie shoots right, stands 5’5” tall and weighs 157 lbs.

On inking a new deal Ollie had this to say about his return, “I can’t wait to get back to the rink and be with the boys. We spend a hell of a lot of time together over the winter, so it will be a welcome return to get things going again”.

“There was never any doubt in my mind when Dunc’s asked me if I wanted to return this year. It’s been a very exciting summer for me and my family with the arrival of Freya. Nicole & Layla are really looking forward to introducing her to the hockey. Rest assured I know I am not getting any younger but one thing I can bring to the party is a 100% willingness to never give in & I will do whatever is asked of me, be that back in D, playing forward or even in goal!!”.

Coach Duncombe commented on Ollie’s return, “Ollie has been an ever-present member of the Hawks squad, the fans and players know what Ollie brings every night to the rink, his grit and determination is second to none and one that the younger players can learn from and thrive off”.

More news and further signings will be released in the weeks ahead and keep your eyes peeled for the season ticket information which will be announced shortly.
