Bobby Farnham Joins The Giants For 2019/20

The Stena Line Belfast Giants have added Bobby Farnham, ex New Jersey Devils, Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, to the roster for the 20th anniversary season in 2019/20.

The native of North Andover, Massachusetts in the USA arrives in Belfast following back-to-back seasons with the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds where he was Assistant Captain.

Farnham turned pro in 2012 as an undrafted free agent out of Brown University, where he was also an Assistant Captain, posting 23 goals and 31 assists, good for 54 points in 129 games. He ended the season skating with the Providence Bruins and Worcester Sharks.

The 30 year old amassed 147 AHL games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins across 2012/13 and 2013/14.

The 5’10’ winger iced 14 times for the Pittsburgh Penguins, including the opening night roster in 2015/16. He was claimed by the New Jersey Devils for the remainder of 2015/16 and scored a goal and an assist in his Devils debut before going on to ice 50 times for the Devils that season.

Farnham spent 2016/17 with the Montreal Canadiens organisation, skating in three NHL games as well as the 71 with the St.John’s IceCaps and recorded his AHL career best 11 goals and 17 assists.

In 2018/19 he ended his two year spell in Springfield by receiving the accolade of IOC/American Speciality AHL Man of the Year for his outstanding contributions to the community.

Bobby Farnham spoke with Davy McGimpsey, A View From The Bridge, official podcast of the Giants:

“Belfast came across as an amazing opportunity and an amazing place to play. The Giants fans will hopefully have fun watching my style of play – I want to be physical and bring speed to the lineup.”

“I enjoy protecting teammates and playing with an edge, which is key to my game and I can’t wait to bring it to Belfast.”

“I am super excited to show my offensive abilities in Belfast though I will never lose the physical side of my game. The CHL was another great element of coming to Belfast and I am excited for the opportunity.”
