Blaze give lead league leaders a hammering
Coventry Blaze gave the Elite League leading Glasgow Clan a 9-2 hammering at the Skydome Arena on Sunday night.
After a fitting remembrance ceremony, the Blaze who were without defenceman David Clements and forward Dillon Lawrence began the game well and took a deserved lead through Evan Bloodoff at 14.14 on the powerplay.
Luke Ferrara, who was later to complete a hattrick, be named man-of-the-match and October’s player-of-the-month made it 2-0 at 16.57.
With just 2 seconds remaining in the opening period, a Justin Hache shot through traffic from the blue-line sent Coventry to the dressing with a commanding 3-0 lead.
The Blaze lead was further extended at 22.31 when the in-form Matt Pohlkamp registered after good work from Bloodoff to win a puck battle and find his line-mate.
The goal of the night came at 25.38 when whilst short-handed Charles Corcoran circled back into his own zone and proceeded to skate through the Clan defence before pulling a silky move and firing a shot past Patrick Killeen.
With his seventh in as many games, M.Pohlkamp finished well for 6-0 (31.54) before the Clan finally got on the board through Nolan LaPorte at 35.10.
Before the second period break, Ferrara was to score again (36.00) and his hattrick was complete early in the third, beating Killeen on a breakaway for 8-1 at 41.54.
Linden Springer was to score Glasgow’s second (46.03) before their night of misery was ended by David Broll wrapping up the 9-2 score-line at 58.32.
Head Coach Danny Stewart said, “I’m delighted with the result and performance. I think we came out right from the opening face-off and we were skating and winning puck battles and that carried on throughout. I’m glad to see the guys rewarded. We had guys we wanted more out of tonight and we certainly got it.”
