Blaze begin Scotland weekend with win

Coventry Blaze began their double-header in Scotland with a hard fought 1-2 victory over the Dundee Stars on Saturday night.

The opening goal of the game was a historic one for Coventry as Evan Bloodoff scored the 5,000th in the club’s history on the powerplay at 7.53.

With Jamie Phillips continuing his recent fine form in the Blaze net it took until 29.30 for the home side to get on the board.

The goal coming on a breakaway from Kevin Dufour and it was the only time Coventry’s man-of-the-match Phillips was to beaten on 31 shots.

The game-winner came on 48.28 when Scot Alex Forbes fired home from an outstanding Ross Venus feed whilst short-handed.

Head coach Danny Stewart said, “We can’t underestimate how big of a win that is. To trek up here and get a road win like that is huge. It starts our weekend on the right foot and hopefully we can take that momentum into Glasgow.”
