Blaze add defenceman Gibson

The Coventry Blaze are pleased to add defenceman Dane Gibson to their blue-line for the 2021/22 Elite League season. 27-year-old Gibson spent three seasons at the University of Calgary icing for the Dinos (USports) from 2017-20. In 70 appearances, the 6’2” Canadian contributed 36 points (14 goals, 22 assists) in 79 regular season and playoff appearances.

Prior, Gibson spent two seasons in the NCAA at the University of Maine where he played 54 times with 12 points (four goals, eight assists). In his freshman year he was awarded the Maine Scholar Rising Star Athlete Award. Gibson, a forward in his earlier years, lead the BCHL in assists in 2014/15 and was named to the first All-Star team. In 2010/11 he won a VIJHL championship with the Peninsula Panthers.

Head Coach Danny Stewart said, “Dane brings a lot of good things to our back end. He’s got great size, great skating ability and another guy that can make plays under pressure. We again, wanted mobility at the back without sacrificing too much size, and he ticks both boxes. It will be his first-year pro, but is older now after playing at the University level. We feel he has a lot of upside, along with the right attitude to do well for us next season.”
