Blackburn Hawks Weekend Preview

Full 9 Yards sponsored Blackburn Hawks travelled to Nottingham Lions last weekend and edged a tight game 4-3 with a gritty performance marred by yet another bad injury, this time to Rich Ravey.

This weekend Hawks have two Moralee Division league fixtures.

Starting off with an away match against the Solway Sharks on Saturday, face off 7pm, Hawks will be looking to make it 3 away victories in a row. They will round off the weekend with a home fixture, taking on Sutton Sting. Face off on Sunday will be at the usual time of 17.30.

Jonas Fredriksson – Defence

Swedish born import defender Jonas, played college football in Canada with Stanstead then moved to the USA for NCAA 111 hockey with Twin Cities and St. Olaf college. After a season back in Sweden with Amals SK in the third division he signed for Sutton at the start of this season. A steady D man who patrols the blue line with confidence.

Scott Morris  – Forward

A product of the Sheffield junior set up, Scott has played most of his career for Sheffield Clubs with a 2 game stint at Nottingham Lions in 2017-18 before switching to the Sting as their captain.

Scott hit 30 goals and 41 assists last season so is one to keep an eye on.

Craig Elliot – Forward

Feisty forward who has iced over 400 games in the ENL/EPIHL/NIHL leagues and has had two seasons with over 200 penalty minutes when with the Sheffield Steeldogs. In 2015-16 he was the most penalised player in the EPIHL with 212 penalty minutes, 13 less than the 225 he took in 2013-14. Second that season to team mate Andre Payette with 265.

Every weekend is a tough one in the Moralee division but the Hawks have found new confidence with 2 good away victories in a row. Solway is always tough at home and usually come out on top against the Hawks but, who knows this time?

Coach Steve Duncombe said,” It is great to be talking about wins again after a superb performance against Billingham and a tough, gritty game against the Lions that gave us 2 victories. There is a much better feel to the dressing room now as the hard work we are putting in is beginning to pay off.  Obviously we will be without injured players Bobby Streetly and Rich Ravey but we are going up north to bring back the points then follow that up with a win against Sutton.”

Don’t forget it is Remembrance Sunday this weekend and we will be honouring the fallen in the usual manner. Please can we ask all fans to be seated a little earlier in order that the minutes silence and the Last Post is respected.

See you at the rink
