An Ace Signing for the Wild

The RTL Widnes Wild are delighted to announce the signing of 20-year-old Mikey Gilbert from local rivals, the Altrincham Aces.

Mikey was the Aces top goal scorer last season as well as being the teams third highest points scorer.  As well as playing for the Aces last season Mikey gained experience with the Telford Tigers and the Manchester Storm.

Player-coach Ollie Barron commented on his latest signing;

I’m delighted to add Mikey Gilbert to this seasons roster, Mikey had a great 16-17 season scoring 17 goals and 14 assists in 26 games for the Altrincham Aces last season. I expect Mikey to push on from last seasons form, and become a vital player for us this year.”

“Mikey is also the Head Coach and Community Development Officer for the Widnes Wild juniors so this is a great appointment. Mikey will work with school groups and form links with the community to get involved in the ice hockey programme, with plans to further develop the Widnes Wild Junior set up,” Ollie added.

Speaking about signing for the Playoff Champions Mikey said;

“I am delighted to be a part of this year’s Widnes Wild team and it looks like it will be a very exciting team this year. I am really looking forward to getting on the ice with everyone and to start this new season. I had a great season last year with the Aces and really enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to the new season with a new team and pushing on from last season.”

Mikey will wear the #16 shirt for the Wild this season and his shirts are available to own and loan here
