Adam Keefe Names Captains For 2019/20

Head Coach Adam Keefe has named his leadership group for the 2019/20 season ahead of the opening games of the Champions Hockey League. The Giants start with two home games in three days and will face Liberec of Czech Republic on Thursday before taking on Germany’s Augsburger Panther this Saturday.

Matt Pelech has been awarded the Captaincy with Keefe naming Liam Reddox, Curtis Leonard and Kevin Raine as Assistant Captains for the Giants 20th season.

Matt Pelech becomes the 10th captain in Giants history during his first season in Belfast. The 31 year old Canadian joined the Giants from Villacher of the EBEL and can boast the experience of playing for the NHL’s Calgary Flames and San Jose Sharks.

The 6’4” 230lb defenceman was selected in the first round, 26th overall, of the 2005 NHL Draft and made five appearances for the Flames as well as eight for the Sharks.

Liam Reddox is also in his first season with the Giants and joined following eight seasons with Växjö Lakers of the Swedish Elite League. The 33 year old won the national championship in 2014/15 as well as 2017/18 when he captained the side.

Curtis Leonard is beginning his second season in Belfast and his second as Assistant Captain. The 26 year old made an immediate impression in 2018/19 as his performances on the blueline helped the Giants clinch the Elite League and Challenge Cup titles.

Kevin Raine becomes an Assistant Captain in his third season with the Giants. The 26 year old defenceman rejoined the Giants blueline after helping the organisation to the 2018/19 Elite League championship as well as successive Challenge Cup titles in 2017/18 and 2018/19.
