A welcome to fans – enjoy the game!

Telford Tigers will welcome hundreds of new fans to tonight’s clash with Basingstoke Bison – and coach Tom Watkins has urged them to “make as much noise as possible”.

A new community drive by the club has seen youth groups and sporting clubs take up the offer of tickets for the visit of the reigning English Premier League champions.

Those groups involved this week include Wellington Amateurs FC, Shifnal Europeans FC, Lawley FC, Bridgnorth Scouts and Mount Gilbert School in Dawley.

Club bosses hope the extra support will help turn Telford Ice Rink into a cauldron of noise for this evening’s crucial league encounter, which gets under way at 6pm.

And Watkins wants them to play their part in creating a unique atmosphere.

He said: “The main thing is that everybody enjoys the atmosphere against Basingstoke, as the game itself is pretty simple. Don’t get too concerned about following the rules!

“We just need everyone to make as much noise as possible. When you’re at an ice hockey game with a group of friends, you’re pretty much guaranteed a great night out.

“Ice hockey is fast, physical and takes a lot of endurance and stamina. There is a lot of skill involved, so hopefully it will be a very exciting match for everyone to enjoy.

“If you’re unsure of the rules, speak to any of the guys you see in a Tigers jersey in the stands. Ice hockey fans are a friendly brunch and are always happy to talk about the game, or explain the rules.”

Tonight’s game at Telford Ice Rink starts at 6pm, although doors open at 5.15pm. To buy tickets, go to www.tigershockeyuk.com/tickets.
