7 Reasons To Get To This Weekends Games vs Fischtown Pinguins

This Saturday (7pm) and Sunday (4pm), the 2016/17 Stena Line Belfast Giants take to the ice for the first time – against the DEL’s Fischtown Pinguins at The SSE Arena. Giants fans will remember the German side from our memorable visit to Bremerhaven for the 2014/15 Continental Cup with the Giants and hundreds of fans travelling to Germany for the Quarter-Final round and subsequently advancing from the four team group to the Semi-Finals.

Here are 7 reasons why you should make it to the Giants this weekend:

1. It’s Game #1

That’s right, after four long months – hockey is back! The games vs Fischtown Pinguins on Saturday and Sunday are the first time the 2016/17 Giants will be in action and gives you a chance to get an early look at the team who will challenge for the Elite League title this season.

Adam Keefe will Captain the side and leads the Giants into battle for their 17th season as the team set up their preparations for the start of the Elite League season.

Fans can pick up a 2-Game Pass for both Giants vs Fischtown Pinguins games this weekend at a special price. 3. Newbies!

This weekend fans will get to see the new Stena Line Belfast Giants signings that Head Coach Derrick Walser has added to the line up over the off-season. Jackson Whistle (Netminder), Ryan Martinelli (Defenceman and ex-Fischtown Pinguins), Steve Saviano, Alex Foster and Blair Riley (all Forwards) have all been signed up with Walser hinting in his Giants TV interview that more are still to come.

4. Pre-Order Your 2016/17 Giants Jerseys

Kukri Sports, the official sportswear company of the Giants, will be opening the pre-order process for the new season jerseys! Fans who order their jerseys at the games vs Fischtown Pinguins on Saturday and Sunday will receive their order at the Giants home game on Saturday 10th September vs Fife Flyers.

The new jerseys will be revealed at the Season 17 Launch Night on Thursday 25th August with the Kukri Sports retail range launched at the Giants vs Braehead Clan exhibition game on Saturday 27th August 27th.

5. DEL-ightful

The Fischtown Pinguins, also known as REV Bremerhaven, from Bremerhaven in Germany will provide the Giants with a stern test this weekend. The side from North Germany will play in the DEL during the 2016/17 season after being awarded a license in July this year to replace the Hamburg Freezers in the league who had withdrawn from the competition.

The Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) is the top German professional ice hockey league and last season the DEL was the second-best supported in Europe, behind the Swiss National League A. The Pinguins play in the Eisarena Bremerhaven.

6. Limited Edition Game Worn Jerseys

Saturday and Sunday at The SSE Arena, Belfast will see the Stena Line Belfast Giants skate onto the ice wearing exclusive jerseys to celebrate the beginning of Season #17. One set of white jerseys and another of teal will be worn by the Giants in their home games against the Fischtown Pinguins.

Fans will have the chance to win one of these exclusive jerseys in a Shirt off the Back raffle at the games on Saturday and Sunday game with tickets, £2 each, on sale throughout the Arena and ALL Giants players jerseys will be up for grabs in the raffle. 7. Can’t make it? No problem!

Fans not attending this weekend’s home games against the Fischtown Pinguins on Saturday and Sunday can watch LIVE from anywhere in the world! The Stena Line Belfast Giants webcasting service – Giants Live allows fans access with the live stream available on desktops, laptops, tablets and phones.

The commentary team will be led by Simon Kitchen and Shane Johnson who will give a fantastic play-by-play analysis of the games as well as pre-match insights.
