7 Reasons To Get To Giants vs Sheffield On Saturday AND Sunday!

This Saturday AND Sunday in Belfast is the biggest weekend of the season so far – the Stena Line Belfast Giants vs Sheffield Steelers at The SSE Arena, Belfast.

Tickets for Saturday, face-off 7pm, and Sunday, face-off 4pm, are now on sale from the Arena Box Office either in person or by phoning 028 9073 9074 and online through Ticketmaster by clicking here. Here are your 7 reasons to get to this weekends big games…

1) Because we are on a roll!

No..not that roll – we’re going on a new year diet after all the Christmas rolls recently..

The Giants are on a more important roll – having won 11 of our previous 13 games placing us second in the Elite League standings, four points behind the league leaders and our Challenge Cup Semi-Final opponents, the Cardiff Devils.

With two more home games this weekend – the Giants need all the support they can get from a large and loud home crowd in order to go after two wins and keep up the chase on first place.

2) Because we are playing the Champs!

Not only are this weekend opponents the current Elite League champions – the Sheffield Steelers are the back-to-back winners having won the title in 2014/15 as well as 2015/16. The Steelers are still in contention to make in three in-a-row as they sit in third place, six points behind the Giants having played three games less.

The Steelers come to Belfast having won back-to-back games against the Manchester Storm last weekend and the Giants need your support against the best side in Elite League hockey in the past two seasons.

3) Because the league’s best goaltending is on show!

Currently the stats show that Stephen Murphy and Ervins Mustukovs are the Elite League’s top two goalies with the Giants netminder posting a Goals Against Average of 2.19 and his Sheffield counterpart posting 2.30. Murphy has won 13 from 17 games played with Mustukovs winning 17 from 26 games played. The stats show that there will be a great goaltending battle this Saturday and Sunday in Belfast!

4) Because you can win GIANT Prizes!

At this weekends games – you could win some fantastic prizes with our 50/50, Shirt Off The Back and Chuck-A-Puck competitions!

Chuck-A-Pucks will be on sale all night for £1 each.

5) Because .. Special Teams!

Right now, the Giants and Sheffield Steelers each occupy second spot in the league’s penalty kill and powerplay standings respectively. The Giants have an 89.09% record in killing penalties while the Steelers have so far posted a 21.54% success rate on the powerplay. This weekend will provide an interesting battle of special teams.

6) Because we need the points!

The Giants have deservedly moved from a double digit deficit to four points behind first place. This weekends games against the Sheffield Steelers will no doubt offer up two battles on the Belfast ice – however with the support of the home crowd to cheer on the team, we want to keep the momentum (and the wins!) going.

We have done it before – with the Giants winning 2-1 the last time these two sides met in December thanks to goals from to former Steelers, Colin Shields and Michael Forney.
