2016-17 ROSTER: Local Hero Leigh back for new season

Milton Keynes ice hockey stalwart, Leigh Jamieson, will be back with the Smith Recycling-backed Lightning next season, it’s confirmed today.  The 2016-17 season will be the experienced player’s eighth in MKL colours and his thirteenth in senior hockey in the town.

As well as EPL and EIHL experience, Leigh, 30, also brings to MKL the benefit of extensive international experience at U18, U20 and senior levels. Last season “Jaimo” was named in the EPIHL All Star First Team, as nominated by Ice Leigh-JamiesonHockey Journalists UK – the fourth time in his career he has received the accolade.

Leigh said the team’s chances of silverware in the season ahead excited him:  “I’m excited to have signed back with Lightning for another season because it’s a great club that’s going in right direction and exactly where I want to be.  We have a great core of players and with the team that Pete has put together, we have what it takes to win trophies this year – and I’ll do my best to help this great club achieve success.

“I’m looking forward to the season ahead and with the planned move to the Elite league in 2017 we’re hungry to bring back some silverware for a final and successful year of EPL hockey.  It’s what our fans deserve and I can’t wait for it to get started!”

Pete Russell was full of praise for Leigh’s abilities: “He has a lot to offer this group and club, both on and off the ice. He’s honest, upbeat and loves his hometown club!

jamieson“Leigh has all the tools, good size and can look after his teammates when required – he really is a big player for us. He worked so hard on his personal fitness last summer and it showed in his overall game – so I’m expecting even more this year.

“I call Jamo my ‘Swiss Army knife’ – we joke about how he can play in defence or as a forward and is very capable in both positions. For me, he’s an offensive defenceman, with the talent to make a difference from the blue line as well as when he’s jumping in the rush -and that’s where he will be this season again for us.

“It’s great to have him back – and we are a better team with him in our line up.”

Leigh Jamieson’s jerseys are immediately available for sponsorship at £200 each for light or dark jerseys and £125 for warm up.  The name of the sponsor will be displayed on the back of each jersey, included on our website and match programme and announced at the start of every game where it is worn – then it’s presented to its owner at the end of the season.  Jersey sponsorships are a unique gift for a loved one, a treat for yourself or a fantastic way publicise your business to around 2,000 loyal supporters at every home game, as well as 27 away games from as far afield as Hull and Basingstoke.  To sponsor, email dave@b2promodesign.com.
