2015 Community Sport and Recreation Awards
CSRA Press Release
The efforts and successes of community sport and recreation clubs and programmes were celebrated last night at the Sport and Recreation Alliance 2015 Community Sport and Recreation Awards.
The Overall winner this year of the awards was local Berkshire organisation Special People on Ice (SPICE).
The award, sponsored by specialist insurance provider Perkins Slade, was presented to SPICE by HRH the Earl of Wessex at a London ceremony yesterday. SPICE received the award, judged by a panel chaired by award-winning BBC broadcaster Eleanor Oldroyd, for its work teaching children and young adults with special needs how to ice skate, regularly seeing over 100 people take to the ice every Sunday.
As well as this, the judging panel were impressed with SPICE’s development of a range of team sports including ice hockey and synchronised skating.
Running for more than two decades, the Sport and Recreation Alliance’s Community Sport and Recreation Awards showcase the very best that sport and recreation activities bring to communities up and down the country.
Commenting on SPICE’s award, Emma Boggis, Chief Executive of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, said:
“It’s fantastic to see and recognise the contribution local sport and recreation clubs make to their communities and members.
“The work SPICE is doing in helping people with special needs to master the ice provides a perfect example of how to make sport and recreation accessible and exciting for all. This award was won amongst some really stiff competition and the people of Berkshire can be proud to have a club as excellent as this one on their doorstep.â€
