Billingham Stars travelled to Blackburn Hawks for the first leg of the NIHL One North play-off finals.
With neither side able to break the deadlock, a fast paced end to end first period closed 0-0.
Hawks came out flying in the second and two minutes into the session Aaron Davies slipped the puck under Mark Watson pads to move the home side ahead.
Thirty seconds later Sam Dunford doubled the Hawks haul giving the home side a two goal advantage.
The second closed with Blackburn in control of a two goal lead.
A 2 minute slashing call on Craig Rogers put the Stars on the power play. Billingham camped in the Blackburn zone looking for the perfect opportunity and with only five seconds left of their advantage Stars Stephen Wallace squeezed the puck home to cut the home side’s lead.
Only a minute later Adam Robinson tied the game in a goal mouth scramble assisted by James Moss.
With 14 minutes to play Blackburn’s Myles Dacres restored the home side’s lead.
An intense run in saw the Stars push the Hawks hard as they looked for an equaliser but some good stops from Daniel Brittle denied the Teessiders and the Lancashire Â side come Â to the Forum on Sunday night with a narrow one goal lead . The Stars will be bolstered by the return of Jamie Pattinson and Martyn Davies.
With a bumper crowd anticipated doors will open at 5.15 for a 6.30 face off.
